Obituary of AUGUSTINE C. BURRIESCI
Mr. Augustine Charles Burriesci (Gus) passed away on Sunday, February 15th, 2015. His family moved from Bronx, New York to Stamford, CT where he was born on July 19th, 1925. Gus was one of eight children and was predeceased by his parents, Charles and Francis (Santacroce) Burriesci, his brothers, Joseph, Joseph (Smitty) and Frank Burriesci; sisters Katherine DelVecchio and Katherine Sicilia, and his niece MaryJo Burriesci. He is survived by his wife Gilda (Giannitti) Burriesci, his children Linda Burriesci Darling (James) Stamford, Rita Parenti, Norwalk and Gus Burriesci (Kathy), Milford, CT. He also leaves his sisters Jane Marsico and Evelyn (John) Spera; his brother in laws, Theodore Giannitti, Stamford and Anthony Giannitti of New Canaan. In addition he has four grandchildren, James (Jimmy) Darling, Sarah Darling, Anthony Parenti and Carly Burriesci. He is survived by many nephews, nieces, grands and great grands.
Gus worked a total of 60 years between the Stamford Board of Education and the City of Stamford. He was the Assistant Superintendent of Buildings and Grounds for the Board of Education and later a consultant with the Engineering Department of the City of Stamford. He was a Navy Veteran and proudly served his country during World War II on the USS Arkansas. After he returned, he continued to serve in the National Guard. He was active in the community; was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and served as the Vice President of the then Municipal Employees Association. Gus is known for his photographic memory of each of the school buildings he worked with including the design, engineering and construction changes associated with them. He supervised custodians as well as trades personnel and was proud to have worked with these dedicated men and women throughout the years. He loved working with the teachers, school and city administrators, all of whom he had a great respect. Gus especially had fond memories of beginning his career at Burdick School.
Gus will be greatly missed by all and the world is a little sadder place for having lost him.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, February 21, 2015 at 10:30 AM at Sacred Heart Church, 37 Schuyler Avenue, Stamford. Interment will follow at St. John's Cemetery, Darien, CT.
