Obituary of NELLA M. ZINICOLA

Nella M. Zinicola, age 89, died December 22, 2014, in her home at Springfield, VA, from cancer. Born in Minturno, Italy, Nella immigrated to the United States in 1950, and settled with her husband, Alessandro Zinicola, a US Army veteran of World War I, in Stamford. Widowed in 1957, Nella raised two children and obtained US citizenship in 1985. Nella was the long-time matriarch of her large family in Stamford and Italy. Nella was the anchor for her family having helped many with their migration to the United States after World War II. In 2006, Nella moved to Springfield. Nella is survived by her son, Vincent J. Zinicola of Springfield and daughter, Virginia M. DiGirolamo of Stamford and Minturno; son-in-law Andrea DiGirolamo of Stamford and Minturno and daughters-in-law Maureen P. Doherty of Springfield and the late, Gale S. (Mecca) Zinicola; grandchildren, Francesca DiGirolamo of Rimini, Italy, Benedetto DiGirolamo of Minturno, Alexander V. Zinicola of Chicago, IL, and Amy D. Zinicola of New York, NY; great-grandchildren, Giada Maddelena and Ambra Pari of Rimini, and Bridgette Marie Shea of Springfield; siblings, Adelina Pensiero and Angelo Mallozzi of Stamford, and Erminia Mallozzi of Minturno as well as many nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, Nella desired a donation be made to either of her devotions in Italy.
