Obituary of ELEANOR MARIE SCLAFANI

Eleanor Marie Sclafani (Surowiec) died peacefully in her daughter Adrienne's arms at her home located in New Canaan, CT on December 14th, 2014 at the age of 90. She had been living with her daughter for the last 10 years. Eleanor was born on February 23rd, 1924 in Philadelphia, PA. Eleanor was the daughter of Joseph Surowiec and Magdalena (Kochanska) Surowiec. While she was growing up her family owned and operated a bakery at 21st and Pemberton in South Philadelphia. Eleanor attended for 2 years the University of Wisconsin but her education was cut short when she married the love of her life, Luciano V. Sclafani Sr. in 1944. She moved to Stamford, CT to live with her husband and raise a family. For over 40 years her residence was in Stamford, CT. Eleanor was married to Luciano V. Sclafani Sr. for 47 years. Luciano V. Sclafani Sr. was the former president and director of Gus Sclafani Corp. (food importers) which has been in existence for 103 years. Luciano V. Sclafani Sr. preceded her in death in 1991. She had two brothers, John Scott and Frank Surowiec and one daughter-in-law, Lisa (Niejahr-Taylor) Sclafani who predeceased her. She leaves behind to cherish her memory her four sons; Gus J. Sclafani and his wife Sharon, Luciano V. Sclafani Jr. and his wife Rosa, Bruce F. Sclafani and his wife Angela, Ronald C. Sclafani and one daughter, Adrienne M. Schettino and her husband Jim. Also surviving are her loving grandchildren; Abbey Schettino, Adam Sclafani, Anthony Sclafani, Brooke Sclafani, Bryan Sclafani, Christopher Sclafani, Gabrielle Sclafani, Heather Dulski (Sclafani), James Schettino, Jennifer Trudo (Sclafani), Jessica Sclafani, Lee Schettino, Luciano Sclafani, Luciano Sclafani III, Nicholas Sclafani, Silvia Sclafani, Stephen Sclafani, Travis Sclafani; her great grandchildren, Adriana Sclafani, Audrey Sclafani, Brianna Sclafani, Caleb Sclafani, Domenic Sclafani, Elijah Sclafani, Isaiah Sclafani, Jasiah Sclafani, Naomi Schettino, Oden Dulski, Sophie Schettino. Victoria Sclafani; three nephews, Conrad Surowiec, Everett Mastrich, Robert Sclafani; four nieces, Andrea Canfield, Christina Surowiec, Tori Kearley, and Betsy Hammond. Eleanor was a dedicated wife, mother and grandmother who cherished the concept of family. She was an active member of the Hubbard Heights Garden Club. Her passion was cooking for her family (her Sunday pasta sauce and homemade chicken soup from scratch was legend). She enjoyed gardening, antique collecting, watching classic movies and was well read. She loved her cats and dogs and treated them like family. Eleanor was deeply loved and will be dearly missed by all. Funeral arrangements were made under the direction of the Lacerenza Funeral Home, 8 Schuyler Avenue, Stamford, CT. Calling hours will be private. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, December 22nd, 2014 at 9:30 AM at Sacred Heart Church, 37 Schuyler Avenue, Stamford, CT. Burial will follow in St. John's Cemetery, Darien, CT.
