Obituary of DONATO M. POMPA
Donato Michael “Mike” Pompa, 87, of Stamford, CT died on February 22, 2017 with his family by his side.
He was born in Settefrati, Italy on October 22, 1929 to Orazio Pompa and Antonia Buzzeo Pompa. Mike spent his teenage years living in Rome, Italy working and studying to become a hair stylist. In 1954, he met and married his wife of 55 years, Merinda. Merinda was living in New York City where they settled until 1959, then moved to Stamford, CT to raise their family. Mike worked at and eventually owned Subway Hairstylists in Greenwich, CT for 50 years and became a well-loved member of the community. He was an avid sports fan of SS Lazio, NY Mets, NY Giants and the NY Rangers and shared his love of sports with his children and grandchildren.
Mike is survived by two daughters, Rossana Colangelo and Vincent Colangelo, Ann Marie Pellini and Eugene Molgano and a son, Anthony Pompa and Johnna Paradis. He leaves behind five adoring grandchildren, Ryan, Eric, Marisa, Alexa and Kelly. He is also survived by a brother, Vittorio Pompa of Settefrati, Italy. In addition to his parents, Mike was predeceased by his wife, Merinda Conetta Pompa, a brother, John Pompa and a sister, Marietta Marsili. The family gives special thanks to his caregiver, Marjorie.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, February 28th at 11:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church, 37 Schuyler Avenue, Stamford, CT. Entombment will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Greenwich, CT. Friends may call at the Lacerenza Funeral Home, 8 Schuyler Avenue, Stamford, CT on Tuesday, February 28th from 8:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m.
