Obituary of NETTIE MESINA

Nettie Messina, 89, passed away peacefully on March 13, 2014 at Stamford Hospital. Nettie was born on October 24, 1925 in Stamford, CT to Vito and Mary (Sabato) Gerardi. Nettie attended Stamford schools and was a dressmaker at a bridal shop in Stamford for many years. She also worked at Grants and as a teacher's aide at Springdale Elementary School. She was a member of the Sacred Heart Rosary Society and Knights of Columbus Ladies Auxiliary. Nettie was full of life and always had a smile on her face. She loved all sports and followed Joe through his baseball career as his biggest cheerleader. She baked, knitted and made crafts with her sisters and nieces. She loved sharing her treasure of family pictures, and the stories to go along with them, to all who visited her. She lived for her grandsons and had a very special relationship with them. Nettie is survived by her son, Joseph Messina and grandsons, Joseph Jr. and Michael; her sisters, Vites Conetta and Anna Arena; and many nieces and nephwes. She was predeceased by her husband, Angelo Messina and her sisters, Rosalyn Gerardi, Josephine Ippolito and Mildred (Mickey) Ursone. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Friday, March 21, 2014 at 10:30 AM at Sacred Heart Church, 37 Schuyler Avenue, Stamford. Inurnment will follow at St. John's Cemetery, Darien, CT. Relatives and friends may call at the Lacerenza Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 8 Schuyler Avenue, Stamford on Friday, March 21, 2014 from 9:00 AM - 10:00 AM.
