Obituary of ANTHONY F. MATTERA
On January 29, 2017 Anthony F. Mattera, 77, passed away peacefully with his loving wife by his side, after a long battle with cancer.
He is survived by his devoted family: his wife of 47 years, Donna Mattera (née Carriero); daughter Jessica Mattera (Michael Curry) their children Jordan and Zola Curry; daughter Allison Mattera Charles (Dr. Edgar D. Charles) their children Evelyn, Henry, and Hayden Charles; brother Philip Mattera; brother-in-law Nicholas Cambria (husband of his late sister Mary Cambria, née Mattera); mother-in-law Ann Carriero; sister-in-law Kathleen Bova (David Brown); brothers-in-law James Carriero (Theresa Planck) and Anthony Carriero as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Known to most as Tony, he was born and raised in Brooklyn, NY but became a long-time resident of Stamford. A 1960 graduate of The City College of New York, he was an engineer who worked for many years in telecommunications for various companies including CBS Laboratories and Prodigy Services Co., one of the first providers of the internet, and was a Past President of the Communication Managers Association. Upon his retirement, Tony was an active member of Sacred Heart Church, the Lions Club, and the Senior Men's Association but first and foremost a dedicated grandfather. A true friend to everyone he met, his absence will be vast but his memory enduring.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday, February 2, 2017 from 5:00-7:00PM at the Lacerenza Funeral Home, 8 Schuyler Avenue, Stamford. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, February 3, 2017 at 12:00PM at Sacred Heart Church, 37 Schuyler Avenue, Stamford. Interment will follow at Spring Grove Cemetery, Darien, CT.
