Obituary of PHYLLIS F. DUNKIN

Phyllis Florence Dunkin passed away peacefully on January 21, 2017. She was 105 and had lived a full, happy and accomplished life. Born on June 28, 1911 in Greenwich Conn., she was the daughter of Onofrio and Adelina Mitchell Varricchio of Stamford. She graduated from St. John’s School and Sacred Heart Academy earned a bachelor’s degree from Columbia University. Phyllis married Eugene M. Dunkin in November of 1944. She was employed for many years as secretary and accountant to her aunt, Mary C. Vuono, the owner of several local businesses, including the Palace Theater. Mrs. Dunkin was an active participant in the local community. She was a communicant at Sacred Heart Church and a member of the American Association of University Women, the Catholic Daughters of America and the Stamford Women’s Republican Club. Mrs. Dunkin is survived by her son Eugene M. Dunkin, Jr. and daughter-in-law Lucille A. Dunkin of New Canaan, Conn., grandson S. Bradley Dunkin of New Canaan and granddaughter Amy Dunkin Donnelly of Darien, Conn. and sister-in-law Ruth Varricchio of Easton, Md. She is also survived by three great grandsons, two great granddaughters and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, sisters Geraldine Visgilio and Adelaide Fitzgerald and brother Ramon Varricchio. A Mass of Christian burial will take place on Thursday, January 26 at 11:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church, 37 Schuyler Avenue, Stamford, Conn. A calling hour will take place before the Mass from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at Lacerenza Funeral Home, 8 Schuyler Avenue, Stamford, Conn. Burial is at St. John’s Cemetery, Darien, Conn.
