Obituary of IRMA E. RIVERA

Irma E. Rivera, age 79, passed away of renal failure at her home in Bridgeport, CT surrounded by her family on September 29 ,2016. She was born on September 21, 1937 in Lares, Puerto Rico to Nicholas and Antonia Nieves. At the age of 18, she moved to the United States. On December 10, 1966 she married Laureano Rivera. Together they had four children. Irma was a devoted wife and mother and took great pride in raising her children. She was a devout Catholic who spent countless hours serving the parishioners of Our Lady of Montserrat Church in Stamford. Irma will be remembered for her kind, loving and generous spirit. She enjoyed needlepoint and would often crochet elaborate blankets for new mothers. Irma was also a phenomenal cook who often prepared her famous arroz con gandules for church gatherings, holidays and important family events. Irma was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Sergio, Wilfredo, Jose Manuel and her beloved husband, Laureano. She is survived by her children Laura (Rafael), Rosa (Rafael), Enrique (Jennifer), and Hector; her brothers Oscar and Jose Juaquin; 11 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. Family, friends and others whose lives Irma touched are invited to the Lacerenza Funeral Home, 8 Schuyler Avenue, Stamford from 2pm to 6pm on Sunday, October 2nd to reminisce, grieve and support each other. A Catholic funeral mass will be held on Monday, October 3rd at St. Benedict-Our Lady of Montserrat Church in Stamford at 10 o'clock in the morning. The burial will follow at St. John Cemetery in Darien.
