Obituary of DANTE J. DECARLO
Dante J. DeCarlo, a lifelong Stamford resident, passed away at home on August 14, 2016. He was 94. Born on July 3, 1922, he was the son of the late Peter DeCarlo and Clotilda DeAngelas.
Dante attended Stamford High School and State Trade School now known as Wright Tech. A veteran of World War II, Dante served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Haverfield Destroyer Escort. He served in the European Theater of Operations in the Atlantic and the Pacific, and was awarded the Presidential Citation One Star. Mr. DeCarlo was a tool and die maker and over the years was employed by Yale & Town Manufacturing, Stamford Tool & Die Company and Cognitronics Company.
One of his favorite pastimes was watching sports on TV especially golf, the New York Yankees and New York Knicks. Dante was an all-around athlete. He played baseball, basketball and he bowled for many years in the Sacred Heart League at Bowlarama in Stamford. He was avid golfer, playing every weekend and then every day after his retirement. He often spoke of the time he made a hole in one at Hubbard Heights Golf Course. He was known for “making the coffee” every day in the blue room of the clubhouse well into his early 90’s.
Dante is survived by sister-in-laws, Jean DeCarlo and Selma Ruggiero; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Nancy B. DeCarlo; four brothers, Ernie, Blaze, Danny and Rudy.
Relatives and friends may call at the Lacerenza Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 8 Schuyler Avenue, Stamford, CT on Thursday, August 18, 2016 from 8:30AM - 10:00AM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30AM at Sacred Heart Church, 37 Schuyler Avenue, Stamford, CT. Entombment with full military honors will follow at St. John's Cemetery, Darien, CT.
