Obituary of CARMINE V. LONGO SR.

Carmine V. Longo Sr., 88, beloved husband of 59 years to Lucille (Pastore) Longo and son of the late Vito and Rosemarie (Gerardi) Longo of Aviglivano, Italy, passed away peacefully in Stamford on May 14, 2016, with his family and friends by his side. He is survived by his 3 sons Robert Longo, former daughter-in-law Lisa Longo and their children Lindsey, Jason and Jamie, Carmine Longo and his wife Laurie and their children Nicholas, Brittany and Timothy, Michael Longo and his wife Laura and their children Michael Jr., Brianna and Dylan, his daughter Lori Legierse, her husband George and their dog Baxter, one great grandchild Jagger Leon and two sisters, Carmella (Millie) Terenzio and Catherine Longo all of Stamford, along with many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, sisters-in-law, brother-in-law and friends. Carmine was born on August 25, 1927, in Stamford, Connecticut where he was a lifelong resident. He served in the United States Army from 1950-1952 during the Korean Conflict. He was a Special Police Officer for the City of Stamford, A member of the Stamford Personnel Board, member of the Knights of Columbus, Democratic Town Committee, Board of Representatives, the Stamford Bocce League and was the President of the American Italian Association. During his time as president of the AIA he cofounded and helped sponsor a Little League and Babe Ruth League for Stamford Youth. He was also a proud member of the COTTAGE GRILL "CHIPS AC" ; The Stamford baseball team that won the Mayor's Trophy in 1949. In 1976 he was the Grand Marshal in The Columbus Day Parade where he walked along side his friend and Governor at the time, Ella Grasso. He began his employment at ACME Plating, Gar Precision and Conetta Manufacturing before transitioning into a position with the City of Stamford where he retired as the Supervisor of Traffic and Parking. After retirement, he remained a hearings Officer for the City Of Stamford for many years. He will be remembered as a devoted husband, loving father, proud papa, great grandfather, special uncle and friend. Besides the love for his family he had a passion for cooking (because he made the best chicken scarp) a love for The New York Yankees and Frank Sinatra (Because he did it his way!) But he will be remembered mostly for his favorite hobby....Yelling at his loved ones. Carmine was also predeceased by his 5 brothers Frank Longo (Sunda), Gerald Longo (Sis), Walter Longo (Setsuko), Joseph and William, one sister Margaret DiDonato (Tony), his brother-in-law Phillip Rappa and two granddogs Lipton and Xena Legierse. He was loved by many and will be greatly missed. We love you very much and will never forget you. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Saint Cecilia's Church, 1184 Newfield Avenue, Stamford, on Friday, May 20, 2016 at 10:30am. Interment will follow at St. John's R.C. Cemetery, Darien, CT. Family and friends may call at the Lacerenza Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 8 Schuyler Avenue, Stamford on Thursday, May 19, 2016 from 3-8pm.
