Obituary of SUSAN R. TOSCHES

Susan R. Tosches died peacefully in her home surrounded by family on February 1, following a long illness. She was born in Greenwich on September 2, 1926 to the late Salvatore and Josephine Rowella. She attended local schools graduating from Greenwich High School in 1944 and the Greenwich Hospital School of Nursing in 1947. Her career at the Hospital spanned 40 years where she spent most of her time as a nurse in the emergency room. In addition to her beloved husband Carmine she is survived by children, Susan and Cynthia of New York, NY, Steven (Carole) of Princeton Jct., NJ, Christine Lambert (Guy) of Bel Air, MD, and Maria Hitt (Randall) of West Suffield, CT, grandchildren, Jason and Casey Tosches, John and Thomas Lambert, Natalie and Robbie Hitt, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother whose happiest moments were spent with her family. She will always be remembered as a compassionate friend who welcomed all into her heart and home. She was also an accomplished homemaker, avid gardener and active member of her Nurses’ Alumnae. The family would like to thank the dedicated medical community of Greenwich Hospital, especially Dr. Dickerman Hollister, Dr. Laura Hodges, Dr. Lisa Kurian, and the compassionate staff of Greenwich Hospital Home Hospice. A Mass of Celebration will be held at St. Mary Church, 178 Greenwich Ave., Greenwich, CT, Friday, February 5, 2016, 10:30 am. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Nurses Alumnae of the Greenwich Hospital Association, c/o Greenwich Hospital, 2 Perryridge Road, Greenwich, CT 06830 attention Sue Martin, Treasurer.
