Obituary of Vivian R Penachio
Vivian R. Penachio, 94, of New Canaan died peacefully on August 6, 2017 at Waveny Care Center. Vivian was born and raised in the Yorkville neighborhood of New York City. She was one of four children born to Vincent and Frances Barone. In 1962 she moved to Connecticut and lived for many years in the Springdale neighborhood of Stamford.
Aptly named, Vivian had a vivacious personality. She was a talented designer and seamstress, an excellent cook, and loved music and dancing. She was an avid Scrabble-player, enjoying games with friends of all ages well into her 90’s. Since 2014 she has resided at Waveny Care Center, where she was beloved by the residents, staff, and volunteers.
Vivian was predeceased by her husband, Anthony J. Penachio, and is survived by her sister, Dorothy F. Logerfo, of Washington, D.C., her step-children Joanne M. Carriero and Anthony J. Penachio, Jr., of Stamford, and nieces Grace Bateman of Washington, D.C., and Nancy Hanze, of Norwalk. Vivian touched many lives and will be deeply missed by her family and friends.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, August 11, at 11a.m., at St. Aloysius Catholic Church, 21 Cherry Street, New Canaan, CT. There will be no calling hours; interment will be held privately. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital at www.stjude.org.
