Obituary of Ruth Mattis
Ruth Mattis, 85, of Stamford, passed away peacefully at her home, on Thursday, September 28th after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born in Stamford on February 29, 1932 to Antonio and Benedetta (Perella) Aniello. She is survived by her brother Joseph Aniello and predeceased by her sisters Marie Venneri and Victoria Lupinacci.
She was married to her loving husband Robert for 62 years and her memory will be treasured by her children and their spouses; Deborah and David Haight, Robert and Doris Mattis and Barbara and Richard Moffett. She was adored by her seven grandchildren Christopher, Christina, David, Andrew, Robert, Jillian, Katherine and one great grandchild Madeleine.
Ruth (also known as “Mickey”) was a life-long resident of Stamford. She was an exceptional athlete growing-up. She enjoyed following sports especially her beloved New York Giants. She bowled regularly with the Morning Glories and was a member of the Hubbard Heights Women’s Golf Association. She was a member of Sacred Heart Church, the Rosary Altar Society and The Columbiettes.
Visiting hours will be held on Sunday, October 1st from 2 – 6pm at Lacerenza Funeral Home, 8 Schuyler Ave, Stamford CT. A Catholic Mass will be held Monday October 2nd, 11:00am at Sacred Heart Church, 37 Schuyler Ave, Stamford, CT. Interment will follow at Fairfield Memorial Park Cemetery in Stamford.
