Obituary of Vasilios P. Lathouris
Vasilios Panagiotis Lathouris, 91, passed away from natural causes on Saturday, October 28, 2017 at his home in East Norwalk, CT surrounded by his family. He was born on June 18, 1926 in Artemisia, Greece to Panagiotis and Kanella Lathouris.
Vasilios grew up in Artemisia, Greece where he met and married Georgia Handrinos in 1955, his wife of 62 years.
In 1967, Vasilios and Georgia immigrated with their four children to Norwalk, CT where they have lived since. Family and education were the two passions of his life. Although he had little formal education, he encouraged and expected all his children and grandchildren to obtain a college education and considered this his proudest achievement. The betterment of his family and access to opportunities were the primary reasons for leaving his homeland.
He is survived by his wife Georgia, his son Peter V. Lathouris, his daughters Kanella Pappas, Maria Tziolis, Kathy Mitas, their spouses, and 14 grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters Sophia Lathouris and Eleni Katsos of Artemisia, Greece and Konstantina Lupo of Palermo, Italy and many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his brothers George and Niko, his sister Stavrianni Vorias, and his beloved nephew Peter C. Handrinos.
Vasilios will always be remembered for his wit, sense of humor, style, Greek dancing, and kindness. He leaves a legacy of dedication to family and pursuit of knowledge and will be fondly remembered by all.
Viewing will be held on Wednesday, November 1st at St. George Orthodox Church at 238 West Rocks Road, Norwalk CT, 06851 starting at 8:30 a.m. with Trisagion Service immediately following at 10:00 a.m. Interment at Riverside Cemetery, 81 Riverside Ave, Norwalk, CT will follow the service. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations be made to the St. George Greek Orthodox Church Building Fund, 238 West Rocks Road, Norwalk, CT 06851.
