Obituary of Richard "Tony" Van Voorhies
Richard “Tony” Livingston Van Voorhies born Aug. 11, 1933 originally from Greenwich, CT and most recently Treasure Island FL passed away at the VA Hospital in West Haven CT on April 9th. Predeceased by his parents, Howard S Van Voorhies and Eunice S Livingston a descendant of the historic Livingston family. Tony enlisted in the Navy stationed in Guam during the Korean War. He was honorable discharged in 1954. He at that point went to the Uconn Stamford branch. Tony started working for the Bunker Ramo Corporation in Stamford for several years. Tony got his sons involved in ice hockey and was a youth hockey coach and referee. He then became a sales executive in the telecommunication industry where he was successful. He eventually was living in Greenhill Beach, RI with house and cabins called “Sea Country” and working in Rhode Island and Massachusetts areas. He owned a Commercial Fishing boat “The Northern Dawn” and a pleasure boat out of Point Judith RI and did some Camping as his hobbies. Tony then became involved in the Mortgage business for a few years before moving to Treasure Island FL and working in the St Pete Beach area semi-retired as a bartender at the VFW and a sales associate at the St Pete Beach hardware store. Tony was very sociable and liked by many friends in St Pete Florida and Connecticut. Tony will be missed and is survived by his two sons Richard and Randy, a daughter and two daughter-in-law’s Cheryl and Jody, four grandchildren and younger sister Sandra Nordholm and brother Stephen.
