Obituary of ELENA DESANTIS LUPINACCI

Elena DeSantis Lupinacci of Stamford, died peacefully at home December 24, 2015. She was pre-deceased by her parents, Gino and Maria DeSantis of Willimantic, CT and by her husband of 64 years, Geno Joseph Lupinacci. She is survived by her son Geno and his daughter Briana Nash, her son Renzo and his wife Denise. Elena was born January 23, 1920 in Monson, MA. She graduated with a degree in education from the Connecticut State Teachers College and pursued a distinguished career in elementary education and as a remedial reading specialist during a tenure of 33 years in the Stamford school system. Her unconventional method of teaching... weaving humor, stories and (along with her accomplished piano skills) music into the established curriculum endeared her to a vast number of children who would remember her and the experience of her class well into adulthood. Some would later declare their 6th grade teacher was pivotal in pointing them to a career in education. Others, new to the United States, were to benefit from her well spoken Italian and French which aided and eased their transition into a new life. She will be remembered for her intelligence and compassion, her elegance, her unique "International" style and... she will be missed. Relatives and friends may call at the Lacerenza Funeral Home & Cremation Services at 8 Schuyler Avenue, Stamford on Wednesday, December 30, 2015 from 8:30am to 10:30am. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00am at Sacred Heart Church, 37 Schuyler Avenue, Stamford. Interment will follow at St. John Cemetery, Hoyt Street, Darien, CT.
