I had known Mario for 12 years. He was one of the most unique, energetic, enthusiastic, and engaging souls that I had ever met. He helped train 2 of my daughters. He is and was always an inspiration and guiding force. I am completely shocked.
Only a few months ago I had been talking to him by phone almost every day. There was so much more work and help that he wanted to do in this life, in his community, for others. That was part of his greatness, his uniqueness. The world seems quieter without him in it, without some of his silly jokes, his loving banter. He shared a story of meeting the Pope a few years back. Only Mario could have this experience.
With the heaviest of hearts I just wanted to say goodbye to this special person, this very good friend. Take care Mario, keep training, keep watching your soccer matches, I know Argentina will win some big games again and I will hear your cheering way down here in Austin, TX.
