Obituary of Peggy Edwards

Peggy Lorraine Bowles Edwards was born on March 21, 1935 in Mount Airy, North Carolina. She was the fourth of six children of the late Pauline Frances and Jasper Bowles. Mrs. Edwards transitioned into Eternal Rest on Tuesday, November 19, 2019. 

A graduate of J.J. Jones High School in Mount Airy in 1952, she then attended college in Charlotte, North Carolina. 

In 1955, Peggy was united in Holy Matrimony with her beloved husband, William Eugene Edwards. To this union was born one daughter, Angela L. Edwards. After the Edwards family relocated to Cleveland, Ohio in 1955, Peggy joined the fellowship of Morningstar Baptist Church. A devout and committed Christian, upon moving to Stamford, Connecticut in 1959, Mrs. Edwards joined the membership of Faith Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church where she served as an esteemed and faithful member for 60 years. There she rendered devoted service as a longstanding and venerable member of the Home Mission Ministry. 

Peggy diligently served as a dedicated paraeducator in Stamford Public School System for a period of 50 years. She was the longest living paraprofessional in the school system who was employed in this capacity. In addition, she was a staff member for the Committee on Training and Employment (C.T.E.) and the Rogers School Community Center Organization (R.O.S.C.C.O) after school programs. As an Instructor in the Title One Computer Assisted Program, Peggy worked with elementary school students on multiple grade levels. She maintained an infinite and passionate love for and devotion to the children under her care. As a result of her superlative tutelage, they developed outstanding comprehensive skills in reading and mathematics and expanded their knowledge of computer operations. 

The highlight of her community service was her active involvement in the William E. Edwards Academic College Tour Program which provided educational awareness and collegiate exploration opportunities for students.  

Mrs. Edwards was the strongest supported of this program. In addition, she was the Co-Founder of Nalijah, an organization for girls which focused upon etiquette and cultural development. 

A cordial, congenial and sociable individual, who benevolently extended herself to others, Peggy derived immense pleasure from traveling with family members and friends to delightful destinations. Her extensive excursions included cruising to New Brunswick, St. John and Halifax, Nova Scotia in Canada, participating in Crab Feasts on the waters near the Baltimore Harbor, reveling in the pleasant atmosphere of Virginia Beach, and enjoying reunions with her many relatives throughout the United States. An elegant lady of impeccable high fashion, style and grace, she also enjoyed splendid shopping tours with her family in the popular department stores of our nation. 

Possessing a gracious and hospitable personality, Peggy relished entertaining relatives and friends in her magnificently beautiful home. Christmas was an extraordinary special occasion during which brilliant evidence of the holiday season was visible everywhere. In addition to the festive sounds of Christmas Eve and birthday celebrations in the Edwards home, summer gatherings and the Fourth of July offered scenes of joyous felicity in Peggy’s lovely floral embellished yard. 

Mrs. Peggy Edwards was a devoted and compassionate mother who nurtured her family in religious ideals and manifested a profound and abiding love for them. She savored the significant quality time which she was privileged to spend with her daughter, grandson, great grandchildren and other relatives. In addition, she was an amiable friend who lovingly embraced others with her warm yet humble presence, her endearing smile, sincerity, quiet gentle demeanor and generosity of spirit. 

In addition to her parents, Peggy was predeceased by her husband, William Eugene Edwards. 

She leaves to cherish her treasured memory, one daughter: Angela L. Edwards of Stamford, CT; one grandson: Robert Eugene Edwards of Charlotte, NC; three great grandchildren: Joy Elizabeth, Robert Eugene, Jr. and Mina Edwards; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family members and friends. 

Peggy Lorraine Bowles Edwards will be lovingly remembered as the perfect embodiment of a faithful Christian, a loyal and compassionate wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt and cousin, a consummate professional, who rendered altruistic service to mankind, and a beneficent friend to all.
