Obituary of LOUIS M. BUZZEO
Louis M. Buzzeo, passed away on Wednesday, June 24, 2015. Born in New York City of November 20, 1914, the son of the late Antonio and Filomena Buzzeo. He celebrated his 100th birthday on November 20, 2014.
He is predeceased by his wife Sylvia Buzzeo and sisters Clementina Buzzeo and Mary Antonelli. He is survived by his sister Lucy Caruso of Stamford and Michael A. Buzzeo of Palm Beach Gardens, FL. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews.
Louis graduated from Stamford High School in 1932. He entered the Postal Service in February of 1939 as a Distribution and Window Clerk at the Stamford Post Office.
His postal career was interrupted in March of 1941 when he enlisted in the infantry of the United States Army. He served overseas in the Pacific area from 1941 to 1942. He attended Officers' Candidate School at Fort Washington, Maryland and was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in December of 1942. He was assigned to the Adjutant General's Office, Pentagon Building, Washington D.C. through 1946 and was separated from the service as a Major.
While in the military service he attended the Adjutant General's School at Fort Benjamin Harrison, Indiana, completed a three year logistics course at the Army Command and Staff College, Fort Leavenworth, Kansas and attended courses given by the Army Industrial College and various Army management schools. He joined the U.S. Army Reserve and retired as a Lieutenant Colonel in 1974.
He returned to the Stamford Post Office in June of 1946 as Administrative Assistant to the Superintendent of Mails. In September 1950 he was promoted to Superintendent of the Ridgeway Station. In October 1956, Louis became the Assistant Postmaster of Stamford, CT. At that time the assistant postmaster provided general direction of the processing of mails, finance, administration and service functions. He supervised approximately 600 employees. During the absences of the postmaster he assumed complete charge of the Stamford Post Office. On November 10, 1973, during postal reorganization, he became the Sectional Center Director of Customer Services, responsible for customer service activates, delivery, retail and vehicle operations for 19 post offices in Fairfield County with a total complement of 1600 employees. He assumed charge of the sectional center post office during the absence of the Sectional Center Manager Postmaster, directed the preparation and submission of the sectional center budget amounting to over 28 million dollars annually. As a top level manager in the Postal Service he was called upon to serve on various committees and boards throughout the northeastern section of the Unite States.
Louis attended many postal management schools in finance, economic evaluation, labor relations, EEO, analytical methods for postal management, human relations and postal operations. He was the recipient of four superior accomplishment awards and in 1976 received the U.S. Postal Service Bicentennial Award.
Louis was a member of the Board of Directors, Italian Center, committee member on Employment of the Handicapped, Southwestern Connecticut; member of the Board of Directors, Mickey Lione Memorial Foundation and a member of the Board of Directors, Liberty National Bank. He also belonged to the following organizations: The American Legion, Knights of Columbus, Holy Name Society, Reserve Officers Association of the United States, National Association of Postal Supervisors. He has been active in various civic activities over the past 35 years such as the United Fund, Red Cross Blood Drawing projects, American Cancer Society and various affairs. He held a Connecticut real estate broker's license and was associated with William Pitt Real Estate.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, June 27, 2015 at 11:00 AM at Sacred Heart Church, 37 Schuyler Avenue, Stamford, CT. Interment will follow at Fairfield Memorial Park, Oaklawn Avenue, Stamford. Relatives and friends may call at the Lacerenza Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 8 Schuyler Avenue, Stamford on Saturday, June 27, 2015 from 8:30 AM - 10:30 AM.
