Obituary of Margaret Barbara Weatherly Basford

Margaret Barbara Weatherly Basford, born on February 16, 1926 and returned to Christ for eternal life on August 23, 2017 at the age of 91.

Margaret was born in Ceres Virginia to Etta Matilda Lambert who died during child birth. Margaret was adopted at birth by Rev. Samuel Calvin Weatherly and his wife Norma Kelly Weatherly. Together they raised Margaret as their own in Lincolnville, Maine.

She married Oscar E. Basford who was tragically killed in an airplane crash, at the age of 27. She then moved with her children to Stamford, CT where she resided for the remainder of her life. Margaret did private duty nursing primarily in the towns of Greenwich and New Canaan and also worked several years for the Salvation Army of Stamford. She was a 40-year member of the Calvary Baptist Church in Darien, CT under the Ministry of Pastor Anthony Gibson. Margaret was very proud of her three sons that served in the Vietnam War.

Margaret is survived by her daughter Martha Basford and two sons Danny Basford, and Neal Williams of Greenville, ME. She is predeceased by her son David E. Basford, and her four brothers Harold, Douglas, Earl and Toby Lambert all of Virginia. She is also survived by her sister Maime Vaughan of Virginia.

Margaret devoted her life to her children and without question was a faithful servant of Jesus Christ. She is survived by numerous nieces and nephews quite notably Christine Cook of Climax North Carolina. She has numerous grandchildren Jeffrey, Rosalyn and Jason Basford, Rebecca Zukowski, Sarah Basford, Addie White and Travis Williams. Her daughter in law Barbara Scalise Basford as well as several great grandchildren will remember her as a loving person.
