Obituary of Fred W. Intrieri
Fred W. Intrieri, 93, a lifelong Cos Cob and Greenwich, CT resident passed away on September 4, 2018 surrounded by his loving family. He was born on October 15, 1924, the son of the late Lawrence and Josephine Chiapetta Intrieri. A veteran of World War II, Fred served in the Eighth Air Force and 90thInfantry Division. After the war, Fred and his brothers operated the landscaping company L.G. Intrieri and Sons for many years and were well known for selling Christmas trees on the Post Road.
He is survived by his devoted daughter Josephine I. Colangelo and her husband Daniel of Port Chester, NY, his loving granddaughters Jennifer Detlefs and her husband William of West Harrison, NY, Lisa Marie Colangelo of Port Chester, NY, the joy of his life, his great grandson, Liam Detlefs, his sister Genevieve Ferri of West Harrison, NY and numerous nieces and nephews. Fred also leaves behind his two buddies, Pedro and Oliver, his African Grey Parrots.
In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his wife Elizabeth, his daughter Diane M. Intrieri, his brothers Michael, Rocco, Frank, Albert, and Anthony, and his sisters Louise Correnty and Viola DellaPietro.
Fred was a 50-year member of the Greenwich Fire Police, having served as past deputy chief. He was actively involved in many organizations including the VFW Post 10112, Elks Club, Knights of Columbus, St. Lawrence Club and the Cos Cob Mianus Dugout Old Timers. He was an avid New York Yankee and Patriots Fan and liked watching UCONN Women’s Basketball. He enjoyed going to the casino, playing lotto, gardening and loved to hunt for wild mushrooms near and far. Fred loved spending time with his family and friends. He was a man with a big heart who was available to help everyone.
The family wishes to thank Dr. James Brunetti, Dr. Sung Lee, Dr. Kevin Conboy, Dr. Richard Edelson (Yale), Dr. Norman Hugo, and Dr. Ashwatha Narayana for their loving care and compassion.
Calling hours will be held on Friday, September 7 from 3:00 -9:00 p.m. at Lacerenza Funeral Home, 8 Schuyler Avenue, Stamford, CT. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, September 8at 12:00 p.m. at St. Catherine of Siena Church, 4 Riverside Avenue, Riverside, CT. Interment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, North Street, Greenwich, CT. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Diane M. Intrieri Scholarship Fund, c/o The Port Chester Council for the Arts, P.O. Box 15, Port Chester, NY 10573.
